Memorable quotes

Christmas Eve (1947)
Michael struggles against kissing Ann
Ann Nelson: What’s the matter, dreamboat? Didn’t you have your vitamins this morning?

Ann Nelson: Oh, Michael! I thought I was going to lose you because you were a rich man and now you haven’t got a quarter! Isn’t it wonderful?

Gustav Reichman: Promises, my dear lady, are the counterfeit currency that inferior people exact from each other when unsure of their own strength.

Aunt Matilda Reed: Have you any idea how many toy trains are wrecked by fathers on Christmas Day, and how difficult it is to work a railroad system if one is over 10 years old?

Michael Brooks: What shall it be, Canada or the Amazon?
Phillip Hastings: For heaven’s sake, stay away from those dreadful places.

Aunt Matilda Reed entering the room: I always ring that gong, gentlemen, to warn people to stop talking about me behind my back.

Joe Bland, FBI Agent: I never drink when I’m working.
Mario Torio: Thanks for warning me.

Mario Torio: We’re both leaving town tonight, but you’re goin’ first. Where’s your hat and coat?

Phillip Hastings: Make Michael stop picking on me.

Williams ‘Bill’, Matilda’s Butler: We shall take a powder.

How to design a living room around the focal point of the TV

?
Given that most people use their living rooms as a place to relax and watch television, it’s not surprising that the TV is often the focal point of any sitting room. This is even more pronounced if you have one of the huge, big-screen models that are so common these days. Of course there are other things that you can make a focal point – the fireplace, a piece of art, even a large fish tank…

But if you decide that you want the television to be the focal point, you need to design a suitable layout for your room. The most important thing when designing a room layout is to make sure that the layout meets the needs of that particular room. There is a huge social aspect to watching TV – you can be watching a sports event, a concert or a film. Therefore you need to make sure everyone can easily see the TV and each other.

You can make a wall a focal point by mounting your TV on the wall above your fireplace therefore creating two items of interest for people to be drawn to. This also elevates the TV so it is easy to see. Arrange the sofas and coffee tables so people are not having to crane their necks to see and so the sofa is facing the TV screen.

Alternatively, invest in a television cabinet where you can house not only the television but also the DVD/ video player and speakers. This way you can also use the shelves to display your DVDs and therefore the cabinet becomes more of an entertainment area. Often the cabinets will have doors so you can shut your TV away at any time when you want other aspects of your room to draw the eyes – for instance if you are showing potential buyers around the house.

Potter in epic finale

For fanatical fans of everything Harry Potter, including celeb fans like bob mortimer, the wait is over, as the young magician and his friends get set for a final showdown with Lord Voldemort in the last film of the current series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II.

The film was out on release on July 15th and has packed out cinemas across the UK, with audiences preparing to watch with baited breath as the second half of JK Rowling’s final instalment is unveiled.

Harry, Ron and Hermione are seeking out the Horcruxes in a bid to destroy Voldemort and stop his reign of terror before it is too late.

What has made these films so challenging for director David Yates is that 99% of the audience who turn out to see these movies will already know the story back to front, inside and out, from the position of every cobweb to the detail of every wand.

Trying to appease the hunger of every avid fan to make the film as accurate as possible to Rowling’s books, whilst still making it a movie that works on screen, is a challenging prospect.

The last few films of the Potter series have been far darker than their humble beginnings, when the likes of Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson were still in diapers.

Deathly Hallows-Part II continues that dark theme, which suits the context of the plot as it’s do or die for Harry and his friends in the battle against Voldemort.

Radcliffe has grown in his acting skills as Harry has grown throughout the books and the 21-year-old produces another impressive performance in this latest offering.

Whatever reviews come out, fans of the books will clamour to see this film, and on this occasion they won’t be disappointed.

Judy Garland

Well, Judy Garland is such a well known name in cinematograph that probably one doesn’t need to say something more about? Oh, how far we’ve gone from the time of Hollywood’s Golden Era, from miracles like Judy Garland. She was a great performer. She was one of Hollywood’s most popular musical entertainer and actresses. She was everyone’s favorite from the late 30′s to the early 60′s.

She was born on Frances Ethel Gumm on June 10, 1922, in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. Judy Garland, the star of many classic musical films, was known for her tremendous talent and troubled life. She started out in show business at an early age. The daughter of vaudeville professionals, she started her stage career as a child.

Garland was called “Baby Gumm” and sang “Jingle Bells” at her first public performance at age of two and a half. With her two older sisters, Susie and Jimmie, Garland soon began performing as part of the Gumm Sisters.

In 1926, the Gumm family moved to California where Garland and her sisters studied acting and dancing. They played numerous gigs that their mother Ethel had arranged for them as their manager and agent. In the late 1920s, the Gumm sisters also appeared in several short films.

In 1939, Garland scored one of her greatest on-screen successes with The Wizard of Oz (1939), which showcased her singing talents as well as her acting abilities. Garland received a special Academy Award for her portrayal of Dorothy, the girl from Kansas transported to Oz. She soon made several more musicals, including Strike Up the Band (1940), Babes of Broadway (1942) with Mickey Rooney, and For Me and My Gal (1943) with Gene Kelly.

Judy Garland married five times and for the first time at the age of 19. Her union with bandleader David Rose was decidedly short-lived, however. On the set of Meet Me in St. Louis (1944), another of Garland’s signature films, she met director Vincent Minnelli. She officially divorced Rose in 1945 and soon wed Minnelli. The couple also welcomed a daughter, Liza, in 1946. Unfortunately, Garland’s second marriage only lasted a little longer than her first. The Garland-Minnelli union was practically over by 1949 (they officially divorced in 1952).

She died on June 22, 1969 from an accidental overdose of sleeping pills. She was just 47 years old. Judy Garland was a very beautiful and talented actress. She was wonderful and we will never forget her.

Happy Birthday, Alain Delon!

Yes, today the legend of world cinematograph, Alain Delon has a birthday. The most beautiful man turns 75! – I just can’t believe!

[youtube="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ki2h_E-hmRU"]

His real name is a little big long but also charming – Alain Fabien Maurice Marcel Delon. He was born in 8 November far 1935 in Sceaux, Seine (now Hauts-de-Seine), Île-de-France, a suburb of Paris. His parents, Édith (née Arnold) and Fabien Delon, divorced when Delon was four, Wiki reported. Both remarried, and Delon has a half-sister and two half-brothers. He attended a Roman Catholic boarding school, the first of several schools from which he was expelled because of unruly behavior. Teachers once tried to convince him to enter the priesthood because of his aptitude in religious studies.

The product of a broken home, Alain Delon had a stormy childhood. He was frequently expelled from school. During the early 50s – parachutist with French Marines in Indochina; mid-50s – worked at various odd jobs including, waiter, salesman, and porter in Les Halles market; 1957 – film debut in Yves Allégret’s Quand la femmes s’en mele; declined contract with Selznick studios; 1960 – received international recognition for his role in Visconti’s Rocco e i suoi fratelli (1960). OK, I wouldn’t be continuing, you can find online any information you are interested in.

I just would like to put here some of most famous Alain Delon’s quotations:

I do very well three things: my job, stupidities and children.

I knew everything and received everything. But real happiness, is giving.

In love, we have to dare everything if we really love.

You believe in God, then you don’t believe anymore and when you have a big problem, you pray anyway.
